ABOUT.
SLANT is an investigative platform exploring poetry & performance through a series of live events and an online archive.
By showcasing the work of both established and emerging practitioners and bringing together performers based both within and outside the UK, SLANT aims to create an inclusive space which celebrates transdisciplinary experimentation and investigates the range of contemporary performative poetic practices in the UK and beyond. Through this we hope to connect practitioners and start conversations across disciplines as well as geographic and linguistic borders.
Each of our events takes a specific strand of poetic performance / performative poetry as its focal point. To ensure their contemporary relevance and artistic quality, we co-curate these events with a poet/performer whose practice explores a particular focus. Each co-curator is invited to perform in their event and to collaborate with us in choosing five additional participants: two performers whose practices are particularly relevant to the event’s theme and three performers whose responses are selected through our open call.
Our current program includes four events, focusses and co-curators:
Forms In Flux.
13th & 14th December 2020
An event focussing on process-led poetic performance co-curated with Xavier Velastin
Writing Bodies.
21st & 22nd March 2021
An event showcasing performances exploring movement, body and text co-curated with Camilla Nelson
Spontaneous Combustion
12th & 13th June 2021
An event focussing on improvisation co-curated with Montenegrofisher
In addition to our live events and our online archive of documented performances, interviews and reviews, we share lists of poets / performers whose practices engage with our themes, in order to create a resource for curators, researchers and practitioners who share our interests. If you know of any practitioners we should be aware of, please get in touch send with their name, a couple of sentences about them, and a link to their work.
